Welcome

From our Director

A very warm welcome to Grimsthorpe. Whether you have travelled from the next village or the other end of the country, thank you for coming — we hope you have a memorable day of it.

Your entry includes admission to the castle, so do make time for the house and gardens. And if you fancy dressing in thirties style, you will be in excellent company.

How the runs work. Machines run singly, over roughly a quarter of a mile along the castle’s main driveway — from the start line in front of the house to the finish. Each vehicle takes three runs across the day. Classes run in turn until everyone has had their go. Each vehicle takes at least three runs.

Eat and drink.

Several food and drink vendors are on site through the day. Or bring a picnic — track-side picnicking is very much encouraged, and half the pleasure of the day.

Facilities.

Portable toilets and disabled facilities are provided across the site. A paramedic is on site all day; ask any marshal if you need first aid.

The castle.

Your ticket includes admission to Grimsthorpe Castle and its Capability Brown gardens.

[The castle is open for the duration of the event.]

Five things worth knowing

Questions, answered

Do I need to book in advance?
No, but we would recommend it. Advance tickets through Eventbrite are cheaper and save you queuing at the gate.
Under 16s go free. Plain wristbands will be given at the gate – we would encourage you to write your phone number on them, in case any child gets lost. However, all under-18s must be accompanied by a full-paying adult.
No. Dogs are not permitted at the event, with the exception of assistance dogs. The track runs live through the day and it simply is not safe.
There is disabled parking close to the ticket gate.
Please do. Pitch it track-side and settle in. Food and drink vendors are also on site if you would rather not carry anything.
No. BBQs and open flames are not permitted anywhere on the estate.
Grimsthorpe Castle operates a no-smoking policy across the entire grounds.
Please stay within the marked spectator areas at all times. Stones can be thrown up from the surface and vehicles can leave the track — the marked areas exist for good reason. Keep an eye out for moving vehicles in the paddock and display areas too; drivers’ visibility from a pre-war machine is not what you might expect.
Yes, and we would love to see them — tag us. No drones allowed. Please note that by attending you agree that Vintage Speed Trials Ltd may use photography and film taken at the event for promotional purposes.
Our officials are easy to spot — brown smock coats and flat caps — and carry radios. Report anything to the nearest marshal or official.
No security is provided by the event organisers. Owners are responsible for the security of their own vehicles and property.
The event runs in most weather. Come dressed for a British July and bring something waterproof. In the unlikely event of cancellation we will post on our social channels and email ticket holders.
Camping is available on the Friday evening for competitors and their crews only, at £20 per pitch. [Confirm 2027 arrangement]
Motorsport is dangerous. Attending any motorsport activity carries a risk of serious injury, death and/or damage to property. Vintage Speed Trials Ltd accepts no liability. Please follow all instructions from marshals and officials, and stay within the spectator areas at all times.
